New Token Launches in a Bull Market: How to Vet Them

New token launches multiply in bull markets. Use this checklist to vet contracts, liquidity, supply, unlocks and teams before you buy, and spot the scams.

New token launches in a bull market should be vetted by checking six things before you buy: the official contract address, what the contract allows the owner to do, how liquidity is provided and locked, who holds the supply, when insider tokens unlock, and whether the team and product are real. Most new tokens fail, and a meaningful share are designed to take buyers' money, so the checks matter most exactly when excitement is highest.

This guide explains why launches multiply in hot markets, walks through a practical vetting checklist and covers the scams that spike when prices rise. It applies whether launches happen in 2026, 2027 or any other strong market.

Why New Token Launches Spike in Bull Markets

Past cycles show the pattern clearly. The 2017 ICO boom saw thousands of tokens raise money through crowdsales, and most later lost nearly all their value. In 2020–2021, DeFi tokens, NFT projects and memecoins launched by the thousands. From 2023 onward, memecoin launchpads made it possible to create a tradable token in minutes. Our guide to memecoin launchpads explains how those tools work.

Rising prices reward early buyers, which encourages more people to chase the next launch, which encourages more launches. That cycle ends when buyers run out, and late arrivals are left holding illiquid tokens.

The Vetting Checklist

1. Confirm the contract address

Get the address from the project's official website or documentation, then cross-check it with an independent source. Never buy by searching a ticker on a decentralized exchange. Our step-by-step guide on how to check a token's contract address covers this.

2. Check contract permissions

Look at what the deployer or owner can do:

  • Mint new tokens without limit, diluting holders.
  • Freeze or blacklist wallets, which can block you from selling.
  • Change fees or taxes on transfers, sometimes to 100%.
  • Pause trading or upgrade the contract.

On Solana, check whether mint and freeze authorities have been revoked. On EVM chains, check ownership and whether the source code is verified. Tokens that let you buy but not sell are known as honeypot tokens.

3. Examine liquidity

QuestionSafer signRed flag
Is liquidity locked or burned?Locked for a meaningful period, verifiable on-chainDeployer can withdraw liquidity at any time
How deep is liquidity?Enough to sell without huge slippageTiny pool relative to the token's claimed value
Who provided it?Project wallet with a clear historyFresh wallet funded minutes before launch

Our guide to liquidity locks explains how to verify them.

4. Look at holder concentration

Use a block explorer to see the top holders. If a handful of wallets (excluding exchange and liquidity pool addresses) control most of the supply, they can crash the price at will. Watch for many wallets funded from the same source, a common way to hide concentration. See also: How to Read Solana Transactions on a Block Explorer.

5. Read the supply and unlock schedule

For projects with teams and investors, check how much supply is circulating versus locked and when insider tokens unlock. A low circulating supply with large future unlocks can mean steady selling pressure for months. See vesting schedules and token unlocks.

6. Check the team and product

Is there a working product, public code, audits from known firms and a team with a verifiable history? Anonymous teams are not automatically scams, but they remove accountability. Be skeptical of audits you cannot confirm on the auditor's own website.

A Two-Minute Pre-Buy Routine

When a launch is moving fast, a short routine beats a long checklist you will skip:

  1. 1Copy the contract address from the official site, not from chat or replies.
  2. 2Paste it into a block explorer and note when it was created and who deployed it.
  3. 3Check top holders and whether liquidity is locked.
  4. 4Run the address through a token-security scanner to flag mint, blacklist or tax functions, remembering that scanners can miss things.
  5. 5Decide your maximum loss and your exit plan before you click buy.

If any step fails or feels rushed, skip the trade. Another launch will come along.

Scams That Spike Around Launches

  • Copycat tokens that share a real project's name and ticker.
  • Fake presales that collect funds and never deliver tokens.
  • Fake airdrop and claim sites that drain wallets when you connect and sign.
  • Pump-and-dump groups that promote tokens insiders already hold.
  • Rug pulls, where developers withdraw liquidity or dump their holdings.
  • Impersonated influencers and support accounts directing you to malicious links.

Our overview of the frauds that explode when prices rise covers each in more depth.

Risk Management for New Tokens

  1. 1Treat new tokens as speculation. Size each position so losing it entirely would not matter to your finances.
  2. 2Use a separate wallet for interacting with new tokens and launch platforms, keeping long-term holdings elsewhere.
  3. 3Test-sell a small amount soon after buying to confirm you can exit.
  4. 4Take profits early if a token rises sharply; liquidity can vanish quickly.
  5. 5Avoid leverage on newly listed tokens, which can be extremely volatile.
  6. 6Revoke unused token approvals regularly.

If you find a token impersonating a known project, you can report it through our submission form.

Bottom line

New token launches are where the biggest gains and the most common losses of a bull market happen. A few minutes of checks, covering the address, contract permissions, liquidity, holders, unlocks and team, filter out a large share of scams and weak projects. If a launch can't pass those checks, no amount of hype in 2026 or 2027 should change your answer.

Vanliga frågor

Why are there so many new token launches in bull markets?

Rising prices bring new buyers who are eager for early opportunities, which makes it easier for projects to raise money and for opportunists to sell tokens. Launch tools also make creating a token cheap and fast. The result is a flood of launches, many of which have little substance and some of which are outright scams.

What is the first thing to check on a new token?

Confirm the official contract address from the project's own channels and cross-check it with an independent source. Copycat tokens with the same name and ticker often appear within minutes of a real launch. If you cannot find an official address, treat that as a serious warning sign.

How can I tell if a new token is a rug pull?

You often can't be certain, but warning signs include liquidity that is not locked or can be withdrawn by the deployer, a contract that allows unlimited minting or blocks selling, a few wallets holding most of the supply, anonymous teams with no track record and aggressive promotion promising huge returns.

Are presales safer than buying after launch?

Not necessarily. Presales often lock your money until launch, give insiders a lower price, and are a common vehicle for scams that collect funds and never deliver tokens. If you participate, use only official channels, understand the vesting terms and invest only what you can afford to lose completely.
